Olde Mill Golf Resort occupies an 800-plus acre mountain property in Laurel Fork, Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains near the North Carolina line. The resort setting includes rolling fairways, natural elevation change and a large lake near the clubhouse. The course was designed by Ellis Maples and opened in the early 1970s. His son Dan Maples and grandson Brad Maples later carried out a multi-year renovation of the layout, rebuilding bunkers and infrastructure while preserving the original routing and green complexes. Olde Mill operates on a semi-private, resort basis with lodging and homesites on the property. Four sets of tees are offered, and the course has built a regional reputation as one of the notable mountain layouts in Virginia.

Primland Resort - Highland Course

Meadows of Dan, VA · 18 mi away

The Highland Course at Primland sits atop a mountain plateau in Meadows of Dan, Virginia, at roughly 3,000 feet elevation with views over the Dan River Gorge and the Pinnacles of the Dan. British architect Donald Steel, working with associates Tom Mackenzie and Martin Ebert, routed the course along ridgelines and valleys of a 14,000-acre estate that had previously been farmland, opening it in 2006. The design uses no lakes and relies on natural gulleys, dense trees and steep drops as hazards rather than heavy bunkering, including a stretch of holes with no sand at all. Part of the Primland resort operated by Auberge Resorts, the course is open to resort guests, members and the general public.
