Brackenridge Park Golf Course

San Antonio, TX — Brackenridge Park Golf Course is the oldest 18-hole public golf course in Texas and one of the most historically significant municipal courses in the country. Designed by A.W. Tillinghast and opened in 1916, Old Brack served as the original home of the Texas Open — the sixth-oldest professional tournament in golf — hosting legends including Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, and Ben Hogan. A meticulous 2008 restoration returned the course to Tillinghast original routing, weaving through the mature live oaks and cypress trees of Brackenridge Park just north of downtown San Antonio. The course also serves as home to the Texas Golf Hall of Fame, with the clubhouse featuring the Walk of Fame and the Texas Tournament Trophy Room. At par 71 and 6,243 yards from the tips, it offers a charming, accessible city-park layout that rewards shot-making over power.

Unleashed on June 17, 1985, Jack Nicklaus’s design for The Bear at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa is a formidable test of golf, embodying his philosophy of creating challenging yet fair courses. Celebrated as one of Michigan’s toughest 18 holes and ranked 18th toughest in America by Golf Digest, The Bear lives up to its name, demanding precision and strategic play from start to finish. Nicklaus’s signature elements are evident throughout, with Scottish terraced fairways, tiered greens, deep grassy roughs, moguls, mounds, and punishing pot bunkers. The course is artfully woven into Northern Michigan’s rolling landscape, featuring mature trees, shimmering lakes, winding streams, and even fruit orchards, providing a diverse and picturesque backdrop. The 18th hole stands out as a signature finish, a challenging par-4 that plays dramatically around a large pond, requiring a precise approach to close out the round. Playing The Bear is an experience in Northern Michigan golf at its finest. Its stern test, stretching over 7,000 yards with a high slope and rating, ensures that every golfer, regardless of skill level, will find a memorable and rewarding challenge. This course consistently ranks among Michigan’s best, making it an essential destination for those seeking a true championship golf experience.
