Ingersoll Golf Course
Rockford, IL · 2.4 mi away
Ingersoll Golf Course sits on the west side of Rockford, Illinois, on land donated to the Rockford Park District in memory of Lt. Clayton Ingersoll. The public 18-hole course opened in 1922 and was laid out by Thomas Bendelow, with later work credited to Bob Lohmann and Larry Packard. Wooded, narrow fairways and gently rolling terrain define the layout, which plays to a par of 71 over roughly 6,228 yards. A 1924 brick clubhouse still anchors the property. The course includes a driving range with 12 stations and a putting green, and it offers a separate four-hole learning course added in 2004 for beginners and families. Tee times can be booked up to 14 days ahead through the park district.
Glen Erin Golf Club
Janesville, WI · 22 mi away
Glen Erin Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-71 public golf course in Janesville, Wisconsin, designed by Greg Martin and opened in 2003. The name translates to Ireland's Valley, and the layout carries wide, undulating fairways, large greens, pot bunkers and ribbons of native fescue. Because the course sits next to the Janesville airport, waterfowl restrictions kept water hazards off the property, a constraint the design works around with elevation changes ranging from subtle to dramatic. The finishing hole is a long par 5 to a double-tiered green in Janesville.
Blackstone Golf Club
Marengo, IL · 24 mi away
Blackstone Golf Club is a daily-fee course in Marengo, Illinois, in the far northwest Chicago suburbs. The layout was designed by architect Bob Lohmann and routes through wetlands, forested sections of hickory and oak, and open meadow, with more than 26 acres of protected wetland areas crossing 13 holes. The par-72 course measures 6,727 yards from its longest tees and offers four sets of tees, playing as short as roughly 4,893 yards, with 54 bunkers positioned around the fairways and greens. Blackstone operates as a public facility with a clubhouse, pro shop and driving range, and also offers seasonal membership packages alongside daily green fees.
