Robert Muir Graves
Robert Muir Graves (1930-2003) was an American landscape and golf course architect who trained at the University of California, Berkeley before establishing a design career centered in California. Over more than four decades he designed, remodeled, or consulted on hundreds of courses throughout the western United States and abroad, including the mountain course at Northstar in the Sierra Nevada. Graves served as president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects in the mid-1970s and was known for routing courses that respected forested and mountainous terrain rather than reshaping it heavily. His work extended across Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington, leaving a lasting mark on public and resort golf across the American West.
