Shining Rock Golf Club

Northbridge, MA

Shining Rock Golf Club is a semi-private, 18-hole, par-72 course in Northbridge, Massachusetts, that opened in 2010. Built across 165 acres with more than 400 feet of elevation change overlooking the Blackstone Valley, the course plays up to roughly 6,875 yards from the tips. Rock outcrops found throughout the property, including the formation for which the course is named, influenced its routing. Each hole carries a name tied to the area's industrial and cultural history. The club also operates the Acorn, a 9-hole short course, along with its practice facilities and clubhouse.

Ledges Golf Club

South Hadley, MA

Ledges Golf Club is a municipal course owned by the Town of South Hadley, Massachusetts, in the Pioneer Valley near the Connecticut River. The Town purchased the 244-acre site in 1996, and the course, designed by architect Howard Maurer, opened for play in August 2001. The routing winds through wetlands, mature forest and former farmland, with 78 bunkers placed throughout and four sets of tees stretching the course to 6,507 yards. Elevated tees and greens are common features, and the layout mixes open, links-style holes with sections threading through wooded terrain. Views extend to the surrounding mountain range from several points on the course. As a town-run public facility, Ledges is open to any golfer, offers seasonal memberships alongside daily-fee play, and added a driving range and new clubhouse in 2008. It has since hosted regional amateur and PGA section events.

Crystal Lake Golf Club

Burrillville, RI

Crystal Lake Golf Club sits on Route 102 in Burrillville, Rhode Island, on the shores of its namesake lake. The 18-hole parkland course opened in May 2004 and was designed by architect Howard Maurer, replacing a former dairy farm with rolling fairways framed by mature trees and water views. The 23,000-square-foot clubhouse houses a tavern restaurant open to the public along with banquet and event spaces overlooking the 18th green. Owned by the Bliss family, the club combines daily-fee golf with a busy wedding and events business, making it as much a gathering place as a golf destination in northern Rhode Island.

Miacomet Golf Club

Nantucket, MA

Miacomet Golf Club is Nantucket's public course, a mile in from the island's south shore in Massachusetts. The original nine dates to 1963; the course was extended to a full 18-hole par 72 of about 6,819 yards, which opened in 2003. The ground is open, treeless and exposed, close enough to the Atlantic that the wind sets up the round. Fairways run through low moorland grasses and the greens are large and gently contoured, so the course plays very differently from one day to the next depending on the breeze. The Nantucket Islands Land Bank owns the property, and the course is open to public play.
