The Oaks Golf Course

Cottage Grove, WI

The Oaks Golf Course occupies a former 168-acre family farm in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, just east of Madison along Interstate 94. The Blaska family, longtime dairy and crop farmers, converted the land into a public golf course that opened in June 2003. Designed by architect Greg Martin, the par-71 layout uses six par 3s, seven par 4s and five par 5s across bentgrass fairways, tees and greens, with more than 250 mature oak trees shaping the setting. The course plays from about 5,600 to 6,700-plus yards depending on tee selection. The Oaks is a public, family-owned facility with a pro shop, restaurant and event space, and it also hosts outings and weddings alongside daily tee-time play.

Atkins Golf Club

Urbana, IL

Atkins Golf Club sits in Urbana, Illinois, a few miles from the University of Illinois campus. Built in 1999 as Stone Creek Golf Club under the vision of Clint Atkins with architects Dick and Tim Nugent, the course became home to the university's men's and women's golf teams. In 2020, the Atkins family donated the course and surrounding acreage to the University of Illinois, and the property was renamed Atkins Golf Club. Architect Drew Rogers subsequently led a renovation that rebuilt the greens and bunkers and lengthened the course, creating a championship-caliber par-71 layout that can stretch beyond 7,500 yards from the back tees. The course is open to public play and is managed by Troon, with five sets of tees offering flexibility for golfers of varying abilities. It includes a driving range, pitching and putting greens, and Oskee's Sports Pub inside the clubhouse.

Glen Erin Golf Club

Janesville, WI

Glen Erin Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-71 public golf course in Janesville, Wisconsin, designed by Greg Martin and opened in 2003. The name translates to Ireland's Valley, and the layout carries wide, undulating fairways, large greens, pot bunkers and ribbons of native fescue. Because the course sits next to the Janesville airport, waterfowl restrictions kept water hazards off the property, a constraint the design works around with elevation changes ranging from subtle to dramatic. The finishing hole is a long par 5 to a double-tiered green in Janesville.
