University of Michigan Golf Course

Alister MacKenzie's university course: a hidden gem in Ann Arbor

Ann Arbor, MI

500 E Stadium Blvd, Ann Arbor, MI 48104

About this course

The University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor was designed by Alister MacKenzie and opened in 1931, one of a small number of college courses built by the architect of Augusta National and Cypress Point. The layout uses the natural contours of the Huron River valley for its green sites and bunkering, and underwent renovation in the early 1990s to restore elements of MacKenzie's original intent. It hosted the first Michigan men's intercollegiate match in May 1931. The course is paired administratively with the Rees Jones-designed Radrick Farms course also owned by the university.

Rustic Glen Golf Course

Saline, MI · 7.4 mi away

Rustic Glen Golf Course is a public 18-hole course west of Saline, Michigan. It opened in 1963 as a nine-hole course built by owner and PGA professional Greg Hodges, and was expanded to its current 18 holes in 1999. The course was designed by Greg Hodges and Harley Hodges and plays to a par of 72 over 6,367 yards. Set in a quiet, rural stretch of Washtenaw County, the course has wide fairways and open greens that look straightforward but include hidden traps and deceptive distances, with hills that can make holes play shorter or longer than they appear. A 350-yard driving range with target greens allows golfers to practice approach shots, and the clubhouse has a dining area and pro shop. The course was purchased in 2025 by a developer building a data center on adjacent land, with assurances given that Rustic Glen will continue operating as a golf course.

Rolling Meadows Golf Course

Rolling Meadows Golf Course sits on Sutton Road in Whitmore Lake, Michigan, on land in Northfield Township that was farmed by Irish and English settler families beginning in the 1830s. The course, originally organized as Rolling Meadows Country Club, was designed by architect William Shively and opened in 1978. It plays to a par of 71 across 18 holes, with bunkers and water hazards worked into a rolling, wooded routing typical of southeast Michigan courses of its era. Rolling Meadows operates as a public daily-fee course today, with membership options and regular outings, and its longest tees measure just under 6,500 yards.
