Turning Stone Resort - Atunyote Golf Club
Tom Fazio's PGA Tour-tested parkland masterpiece in upstate New York.
About this course
Atunyote is the Tom Fazio course at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, New York, built by the Oneida Indian Nation and opened in 2004. The name means "eagle" in Oneida, and the course sits on open farmland rather than the wooded terrain used for the resort's other layouts.
At more than 7,300 yards from the back tees, it is the longest and most exposed of the Turning Stone courses. Water is in play on a number of holes, the bunkering is deep and formal, and the greens are large with enough tilt to make position off the tee matter.
Atunyote hosted the PGA Tour's Turning Stone Resort Championship from 2007 through 2010. It has also hosted the Notah Begay III Foundation Challenge.

The nine-hole course at Turning Stone Resort in Verona, New York referenced here is Sandstone Hollow, a par-three layout built on the Oneida Indian Nation's resort property in central New York. Sandstone Hollow was designed by golf architect Rick Smith and opened in 1999, winding through woods and wetlands with fescue grass and rock outcroppings framing the greens. Holes stretch up to 240 yards, making it play longer than a typical short course despite its par-three format. The course is open to resort guests and the public on a walk-in basis and is also recognized as a U.S. Kids Golf facility. It operates alongside the resort's other courses, including the full-length Shenendoah, Kaluhyat and Atunyote layouts.
