About this course
The Royal and Ancient Chappaquiddick Golf Club, known locally as Royal Chappy, sits on North Neck Road on Chappaquiddick Island off Edgartown, Massachusetts. It began as an informal layout on salt plains along the shore, founded in the late 1880s by summer residents Frank Marshall and Sam Seager, and it fell into disrepair through the Depression and World War Two before being cleared and restored by later generations of the Marshall family.
The nine-hole course, about 1,352 yards, has an unirrigated, rustic character with wooly greens, blind shots and quirky obstacles including a cedar tree standing in a fairway. It has no formal architect of record and has evolved informally over more than a century.
Access is limited and semi-private, associated with the Chappaquiddick summer community, and the course is walkable with minimal amenities beyond a small clubhouse.

Cape Cod Country Club is located in East Falmouth, Massachusetts, and has operated on the same site since 1928, when it opened as a nine-hole course called Coonamesset. Devereux Emmet and Alfred H. Tull designed the original layout; a long-standing rumor that Donald Ross later redesigned it to 18 holes has never been documented by club researchers. The course changed names several times before becoming Cape Cod Country Club in 1977. It hosted three consecutive Massachusetts Open championships in the 1950s and an Arnold Palmer exhibition match in 1960. A notable hole is the par-4 14th, nicknamed "The Volcano" for its elevated green. The Friel family has owned the club since 1985; it operates as a public course open year-round.
