About this course
Suffolk Golf Course is a public 18-hole layout in Suffolk, Virginia, whose original nine opened in 1952 to a design by Dick Wilson, with Russell Breeden also credited on the early routing. The back nine plays along Lake Kilby, with tree-lined corridors, elevation change and doglegs that make the course play longer than its yardage suggests. Greens were rebuilt in 2013 by architect Lester George, who restored Dick Wilson's original green contours and converted the surfaces to Champion Bermuda grass. The course is open daily to the public, offers beginner-friendly forward tees, and hosts group outings ranging from small groups to full-field tournaments.

Portsmouth, VA · 16 mi away
Bide-A-Wee Golf Course is a city-owned course in Portsmouth that first opened in 1920. Chandler Harper ran it for years, and Curtis Strange, who learned there as a teenager, worked with architect Tom Clark on a full rebuild completed around 1999. The rebuild took out thousands of pines that shaded the course and added eight lakes on what was flat, wet ground. It also brought new greens, bunkers and a practice area. It plays as a par 72. It is open to the public, with a pro shop, grill and a pavilion for events.
