Stoatin Brae at Gull Lake View Golf Resort
Scottish-inspired links design in southwest Michigan
About this course
Stoatin Brae is part of the Gull Lake View Golf Resort complex in Augusta, Michigan, set on one of the higher points in Kalamazoo County. Opened in 2016 and designed by Renaissance Golf Design (associates of Tom Doak), the course takes a links-style approach with open, windswept terrain that departs from the parkland style common in the region.
The course plays 6,742 yards from the back tees to a par of 71 and is walkable, with firm turf that lets golfers run the ball along the ground. It is open to the public and can be booked as part of Gull Lake View's six-course stay-and-play resort package.

Marywood Golf Club
Battle Creek, MI · 9.1 mi away
Marywood Golf Club is a public 18-hole course in Battle Creek, Michigan, founded in 1926 as a private country club before shifting to public play in the 2000s. The course was designed by architect Maurice McCarthy, who used the rolling, wooded land to shape a naturally challenging layout. The front nine is more open while the back nine winds through hilly terrain with side-hill lies, and the slope rating reaches 132 from the blue tees. A clubhouse fire in 2002 destroyed the original two-story building, and the club has continued operating since. Marywood sits within an easy drive of Detroit, Chicago, Grand Rapids, Lansing, and Ann Arbor. The course is known locally for its scenic setting and demanding routing, requiring careful club selection because of the elevation changes across the back nine holes.
Angels Crossing Golf Club
Vicksburg, MI · 17 mi away
Angels Crossing Golf Club is set along Portage Creek and Barton Lake in the Village of Vicksburg, Michigan, south of Kalamazoo. The property was shaped by glacial terrain and includes wetlands and prairie grasses bordering the fairways. The course was designed by architect W. Bruce Matthews III, who drew on Golden Age design principles, producing large contoured greens, bold bunkering and generous fairways with five sets of tees for a range of skill levels. The club is community owned, operated by the Village of Vicksburg, and classified as semi-private. Sources differ on whether the layout is 18 or 27 holes, so hole count, par and year built are not confirmed here.
The Medalist Golf Club
Marshall, MI · 19 mi away
The Medalist Golf Club is an 18-hole public course in Marshall, Michigan, set on nearly 300 acres of wooded land and wetlands in the south-central part of the state. It was designed by architect William Newcomb and stretches to nearly 7,000 yards from the back tees, with five sets of tees available on every hole to suit a range of playing levels. The routing has a links-style character despite its inland location, and the club has hosted state-level amateur and junior championships, including Michigan Women's and Junior State events, along with USGA Public Links qualifying rounds. The Medalist operates a GPS-based food and beverage ordering system that delivers to golfers on course. A clubhouse pavilion hosts weddings and banquets in addition to regular tee-time play. As a daily-fee public facility, the course uses dynamic pricing that adjusts rates based on demand and time of booking.
