About this course

Shoop Park Golf Course is a public 9-hole municipal course in Racine, Wisconsin, run by the city's Johnson Park Golf Course operation. The land was donated by Dr. Clarendon and Ida Shoop in 1917 for use as a public park, and the golf course dates to 1936. It sits directly on Lake Michigan, with the shoreline forming its eastern edge and the Wind Point Lighthouse visible from every hole. The par-35 layout measures about 2,667 yards and has long served as a home course for the city's junior golf academy. Cooling lake breezes make it a popular summer stop for golfers and photographers. In recent years the city has weighed a long-term lease that would let a private developer redevelop the course, a plan that residents have organized to oppose, so its future format remains uncertain even though it continues to operate as a public course today.
