Pronghorn Club at Juniper Preserve (Nicklaus Course)
Jack Nicklaus high-desert design at Juniper Preserve near Bend

About this course
The Nicklaus Course at Pronghorn Club, part of Juniper Preserve in Bend, Oregon, was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 2004 as his first signature design in the state. The par-72 layout stretches to roughly 7,380 yards through high-desert terrain of juniper, lava rock and sage with views of the Cascade Mountains and Smith Rock. It was built as a desert-style course, a departure from the pine-forest layouts typical of Central Oregon. The course operates within the Pronghorn Club resort and residential community.

Tetherow Golf Club
Bend, OR · 8.4 mi away
Tetherow in Bend, Oregon, opened in 2008 and was designed by David McLay Kidd. It sits on high desert ground on the west side of town, with the Cascades in view and lava rock at the edges of the property. The course is built on fescue turf and kept firm, so the ball bounces and runs and shots played into slopes are often better than shots flown at flags. Greens are large, tilted and unforgiving, and there is more room off the tee than there appears to be from the tee box. It is semi-private, with public tee times available alongside member play and lodging on site.
