About this course
Newport Golf Club was organized in 1920 by residents tired of driving to Claremont to play, and the course opened in 1921 after Willie Park Jr. weighed in on the site. It is now an 18-hole, par 71 course on 143 acres in the Sugar River Valley, a few minutes from Lake Sunapee. The current 18 is a Phil Wogan design, and the Sugar River comes into play, including on the 15th. From the back Sugar River tees it measures 6,389 yards with a 72.1 rating and 128 slope. Local owners bought the club in 2022.

The land rolls hard, and the greens are small, tilted and full of movement, which keeps the course playing firm against modern equipment. Hooper measures 3,033 yards at par 36 from the back tees. It is a public 9-hole course that also offers memberships.
