Newell Golf Course first opened for play in 1968 and offers a scenic nine hole layout in western South Dakota. The course is situated to provide expansive views of the Black Hills and the historic Bear Butte landmark. The rolling fairways are relatively wide but are bordered by thick native grass that penalizes errant shots. Water hazards come into play on three of the holes and the small dome shaped greens require accurate approach shots. From the back tees the par 36 course measures 2,980 yards. The third hole is noted as the most difficult challenge due to its dogleg left design and out of bounds markers lining both sides of the fairway.
