Marshfield Country Club

Marshfield, WI · 20 mi away

Marshfield Country Club is located on Highway B in Marshfield, Wisconsin, in Wood County. The club was organized in August 1922 by local businessmen on property near a pond on the west side of town. Golf professional Joe Sturm of Wisconsin Rapids laid out the original nine-hole course, and additional yardage was added to several holes the following year. The club survived the Great Depression under different ownership arrangements before the Acker family ran it for decades in the second half of the twentieth century. The course operates today as an eighteen-hole facility with a clubhouse, driving range and dining service. Ownership changed again in 2016, when the golf course was sold while the driving range and mini-golf remained under separate management.

Sand Valley Golf Resort - Sedge Valley

Nekoosa, WI · 44 mi away

Sedge Valley opened in 2024 at Sand Valley in Nekoosa, Wisconsin, and was designed by Tom Doak. It was built deliberately short, playing to a par 68 at well under 6,000 yards, as a counterweight to the longer courses at the resort. The model was British heathland golf. Corridors are tighter than elsewhere on the property, the ground is covered in low sedge and scrub, and the emphasis is on shot placement and iron play rather than driving distance. There are more short par 4s and par 3s than a standard rotation. It is walking only, open to resort guests, and shares the same sandy soil as the resort's other courses.
