About this course
Maggie Valley Club is a golf resort in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, in the Great Smoky Mountains, built on land once farmed by the Moody family. Wilmore Bremmer and partners turned tobacco and corn fields into the front nine, the Valley nine, and golfers first played it in 1963. The Mountain nine was added later on higher ground, completing an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by William Prevost. It measures 6,505 yards from the back tees. Homes line parts of the course. The course is open to the public as well as members and their guests.

The course opened in 1919, initially as nine holes, with guests once arriving by train and crossing the lake by boat to play. An old farmhouse served as the original clubhouse, and the course expanded to 18 holes during a 1990s renovation. It marked its centennial in 2019 with a year-long series of events drawing on decades of local history. The course underwent further improvements beginning in 2018 aimed at restoring its condition and profitability. It remains open to the public as part of the retreat center's recreational offerings.

Sequoyah National Golf Club
Whittier, NC · 13 mi away
Sequoyah National Golf Club is a public course near Whittier, North Carolina, owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and set on steep, dramatic terrain in the Great Smoky Mountains about 45 minutes from Asheville. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones II with Notah Begay III and opened in 2009. The routing climbs and descends sharply across the mountainside, producing significant elevation change hole to hole and panoramic views of the surrounding national park land. Bentgrass greens and zoysia fairways were installed, with a later renovation converting bunkers to a capillary-concrete system and adding zoysia to the fairways for consistent year-round conditioning. Sequoyah National operates as a public course with a practice facility including a driving range and chipping area, and it is close to Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort. Annual memberships are also offered alongside daily tee times.
