About this course

Indian Springs is a public 9-hole, par 36 course in Middlefield, a few minutes off I-91 in central Connecticut. Alan Parmelee opened it in 1964 and his family still runs it. The routing climbs over hilly ground with water, countryside views and several blind shots, and the greens are large and kept fast. The par-5 fifth runs 552 yards along the woods before a sharp dogleg right. There is a driving range, short-game area, putting green and the Fairweather Cafe with a patio overlooking the course.

Lyman Orchards Golf Club (Jones)

Middlefield, CT · 0.5 mi away

The Jones Course at Lyman Orchards in Middlefield is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design that opened in 1969, after Jack Lyman brought Jones in to add golf to the family's orchard property. It plays from 5,812 to 7,011 yards at par 72, with a 134 slope from the tips. Expect big bunkers and water that sets up risk and reward, long par 5s and stout par 3s on the front, and tighter fairways on the back. The par-5 18th closes with a go-or-lay-up decision.

Lyman Orchards Golf Club (Player)

Middlefield, CT · 0.5 mi away

The Player Course is one of three golf courses at Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, Connecticut, a family-owned orchard property that added golf to its operations after phasing out dairy farming in the 1960s. Designed by Gary Player, the course opened in 1994 as a companion to the earlier Robert Trent Jones Sr. course on the same property. It winds through the orchard's apple trees and deciduous and pine woodland with notable elevation changes, and steep sections require golf carts rather than walking. Thirty-four bunkers guard relatively small greens, and the course is known for a strong set of par 3s averaging around 210 yards from the back tees. It plays to a par of 71 and can be set up from about 4,700 to 6,600 yards depending on tee selection.

Quarry Ridge Golf Course

Portland, CT · 6.2 mi away

Quarry Ridge is a public course in Portland designed by Al Zikorus and Joe Kelley. It sits high on a hill above the Connecticut River and Meshomasic State Forest, and the holes wind through rolling ground and granite outcroppings. It is on the short side at about 6,400 yards, but the elevation and tight, wooded corridors make it play harder than the card says.
