About this course
Conklin Players Club is an 18-hole public course in Conklin, just north of the Pennsylvania line outside Binghamton. Rick Rickard, who had reportedly never played a round of golf when he decided to design and build it, opened the course in 1991. It plays to par 72 at 6,772 yards from the tips, all bent grass from tees to greens. The routing is pure Rickard: a par-3 seventh with two very different tee locations played as 7A or 7B, an island-green par-3 tenth, and a black glass pyramid beside the eighth green, which is Rickard's home. Carts carry GPS, and tee times can be booked online.

En-Joie Golf Club
Endicott, NY · 15 mi away
En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott opened in 1927 to a design by Ernie Smith and sits along the banks of the Susquehanna River in New York's Southern Tier. The course hosted the PGA Tour's B. C. Open from 1972 through 2006, then continued as home to the Dick's Sporting Goods Open on PGA Tour Champions beginning in 2007. That tour history has left the layout with tournament-tested infrastructure uncommon for a public course of its age. En-Joie remains open to public play a few miles from downtown Binghamton.
Hiawatha Landing Golf Course
Apalachin, NY · 19 mi away
The Links at Hiawatha Landing is a public, links-style course in Apalachin, New York, along the Susquehanna River about 15 miles west of Binghamton. It was designed by Brian Silva and Mark Mungeam and opened in the early 1990s, with rolling hills, sand bunkers and ornamental grasses meant to evoke British links golf. The course stretches over 7,000 yards from the back tees to a par of 72, with five sets of tees down to about 5,100 yards from the front. Water comes into play on several holes, but the course has no forced carries or blind shots, and it is open to public daily-fee play.
Soaring Eagles Golf Course
Horseheads, NY · 53 mi away
Soaring Eagles Golf Course is a state-operated course inside Mark Twain State Park in Horseheads, New York, in the Finger Lakes region. It was designed by Archibald 'Pete' Craig and opened in 1963 on ground shaped thousands of years ago by a retreating glacier, which left kettle ponds scattered across the property. The routing is unusual for having only two holes that run parallel to each other. The course plays to roughly 6,600 to 7,000 yards depending on tee selection, with bentgrass tees, fairways and greens. As part of the state park system, it is open to the public with standard green fees, cart and club rentals, and reduced rates for New York State senior residents. The park surrounding the course also offers hunting in season and winter recreation.
