Golf Club of Estrella
Goodyear, AZ · 2.9 mi away
The Golf Club of Estrella, a masterful creation by Jack Nicklaus II, stands as a testament to thoughtful desert golf design in Goodyear, Arizona. As the first daily-fee course in Phoenix designed by Nicklaus II, it showcases his distinct philosophy, blending seamlessly with the natural Sonoran Desert landscape. The course carves through dramatic terrain, offering stunning vistas of the Estrella Mountains and a visual character defined by rugged washes and pristine fairways. The playing experience is both challenging and rewarding, designed to engage golfers of all skill levels without overwhelming them. A true highlight is the signature 17th hole, aptly named “Grand Consequence.” This 194-yard par-3 demands precision, set majestically into rocky slopes, where a well-struck shot is crucial to avoid strategically placed bunkers. Recognized by GolfAdvisor among Arizona's Top 25 courses, Estrella provides an exceptional golf outing. It is ideally suited for destination golfers seeking a memorable desert challenge and locals desiring a consistently high-quality, engaging round.
Verrado Golf Club - Victory Course
Buckeye, AZ · 11 mi away
Verrado Golf Club's Victory Course is a second John Fought and Tom Lehman design at Verrado, built partly on the site of an old Caterpillar Tractor testing grounds. The 7,295-yard, par-72 layout is best known for its dramatic par-5 18th — a dogleg right over an irrigation pond to a wide diagonal fairway with a rock escarpment on the left, finishing at a green tucked into a box canyon protected by boulder outcroppings. Golf Digest Architecture Editor Ron Whitten called it one of the most compelling closing holes in the Southwest.
