Sunday River Golf Club
Newry, ME · 5.5 mi away
Sunday River Golf Club sits five miles from Bethel in the western Maine mountains, part of the Sunday River ski resort owned by Boyne Resorts. The course occupies a northwest-facing hillside with views across the valley to the Mahoosuc Range and Old Speck Mountain, and fall foliage frames many holes. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened in 2005, the layout uses stone retaining walls to carve fairway terraces into steep slopes and ravines, with tiered greens, rock outcroppings, wetlands and the Merrill Brook coming into play. Wide fairways keep the course playable despite the terrain. Sunday River operates as a semi-private, resort-affiliated club open to guests and the public. Amenities include a clubhouse with dining, a pro shop and a practice range; carts are commonly used given the elevation changes.
Bridgton Highlands Country Club
Bridgton, ME · 24 mi away
Bridgton Highlands Country Club is located on Highland Ridge in Bridgton, Maine, in the state's Lakes Region. The original nine holes were designed by A.W. Tillinghast in 1925-26, his only design in Maine, with fieldwork carried out by Ralph Martin Barton. Geoffrey Cornish and Brian Silva replaced two holes in the 1980s, and the course was expanded to 18 holes in the 1990s using a design by then co-owner Fred Ryan. The semi-private course is open to the public and offers four sets of tees along with views of Pleasant Mountain and Shawnee Peak. A tennis program with four courts operates alongside the golf facility.
Wentworth Golf Club
Jackson, NH · 26 mi away
Wentworth Golf Club sits in Jackson Village and dates to 1895, making it one of the older courses in the White Mountains. It is not connected to Wentworth by the Sea in Rye. The Wildcat and Ellis rivers wind through the property, and the course has views of the Presidential Range. It is a short 18 at par 70 and 5,581 yards, with a 66.0 rating and 115 slope, so accuracy matters more than distance. The opener is a 305-yard par 4 with out of bounds right and five greenside bunkers. The Red Fox Bar & Grill is on site.
