Del Monte Golf Course

Monterey, CA

Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey, California, opened on May 1, 1897, as a nine-hole layout designed by Charles E. Maud for guests of the Hotel Del Monte. It was expanded to 18 holes by 1903 and remains on its original site, making it the oldest golf course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi River. The course hosted early West Coast championships including the Del Monte Cup and the 1916 Western Amateur, and its tournament helped inspire the California State Amateur, founded in 1912. Now operated by Pebble Beach Resorts, Del Monte is public and known for small, sloped, old-style greens and a compact routing that plays around 6,365 yards.

Crystal Springs Golf Course

Burlingame, CA

Crystal Springs Golf Course is located near the Crystal Springs Reservoir in Hillsborough, adjacent to Burlingame, California, on the San Francisco Peninsula. The course was designed in 1924 by British architect William Herbert Fowler, whose work emphasized routing that follows natural terrain, and it has seen only modest changes since. The par-72 layout runs 6,628 yards from the back tees with a slope rating of 124, featuring well-bunkered greens and rolling hillsides that slope down toward the reservoir. It is a public course with practice facilities, and weekday and weekend rates are posted online along with cart fees. Tee times can be booked directly through the course.
