Riverview Golf Course was originally built nearly sixty years ago as a nine hole parkland facility for El Paso Natural Gas Company employees in Kirtland [2](https://www.riverviewgolfnm.com/course-information/). In the 1990s, another nine holes were added by architect Baxter Span, creating a championship 18 hole layout that combines parkland and links styles [2](https://www.riverviewgolfnm.com/course-information/). The course is situated at an elevation of 5,500 feet and offers views of Shiprock and the surrounding high desert [2](https://www.riverviewgolfnm.com/course-information/) [5](https://www.nmact.org/2024/12/san-juan-country-club-pinon-hills-and-riverview-golf-courses-to-host-nmaa-golf-championships/). San Juan County assumed ownership in 2010 and the facility frequently hosts state high school golf championships [2](https://www.riverviewgolfnm.com/course-information/) [5](https://www.nmact.org/2024/12/san-juan-country-club-pinon-hills-and-riverview-golf-courses-to-host-nmaa-golf-championships/).
