Deerfield Golf Club

Newark, DE

Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Delaware, opened in 1955. William Gordon designed the course, originally Louviers Country Club, with his son David Gordon joining his firm in 1953. Gordon, a charter member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, created courses with internal green contours and strategic play. Deerfield features an 18-hole layout with mature tree-lined fairways and well-protected greens. The first hole is a par 5, often playing into the wind, requiring a second shot over water to an elevated green. Deerfield has hosted an exhibition match with golf legends and remains a championship course in the region.
