Coyote Hills Golf Course

Fullerton, CA

Coyote Hills Golf Course occupies 250 acres of hillside terrain in Fullerton, California, with views across Los Angeles and Orange County. Architect Cal Olson designed the course with input from PGA Tour player Payne Stewart, the only project Stewart was involved with as a design consultant. The course was built around dozens of active oil wells, which the design team reduced in number and screened with plantings and access roads, along with roughly 2,500 trees planted for cover. It opened in 1996 as a par-70 public course measuring about 6,510 yards from the back tees, with elevation changes of over 100 feet and water features on several holes. It remains a public facility with a driving range and event spaces.

Sonoma Ranch Golf Course

Las Cruces, NM

Sonoma Ranch Golf Course is a public course in Las Cruces, New Mexico, in the Mesilla Valley with views of the nearby Organ Mountains. It was designed by Cal Olson and opened in 2000, the first new public course built in Las Cruces in more than fifty years. The layout runs through bluegrass fairways cut into the desert brush, with undulating bentgrass greens, multiple bunkers, and water hazards, including a large lake bordering the finishing holes. Five sets of tees accommodate a range of playing abilities. Sonoma Ranch is fully open to the public and includes a clubhouse, pro shop, and grill. Ownership changed in 2021 when it was acquired by the group that also owns Red Hawk Golf Course, with plans to operate the two courses together.
