Meadow Lakes Golf Course

Prineville, OR

Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Prineville, Oregon, grew out of a 1988 wastewater problem, when the city needed a way to dispose of effluent that had been entering the Crooked River. Rather than build a costly treatment plant, Prineville built a golf course irrigated with the treated water, using nine ponds as evaporation basins and hazards. Architect Bill Robinson designed the 18-hole layout, with the front nine opening in 1993 and the back nine following that same year. The course crosses the Crooked River four times over fairly flat, walkable ground, with large greens and five sets of tees ranging up to about 6,783 yards at a par of 72. It is a city-owned public course that has hosted several Oregon Golf Association championships.

It hosts the Cape Cod Open and has been used for PGA section championships, and it also serves as home to Cape Cod's First Tee junior golf program. The course is open to the general public with no membership required, though annual memberships are available for frequent players.
